West Riding - Hardcastle Craggs
15 miles of forest paths and far-reaching valley views
Owned by the National Trust, Hardcastle Craggs is a 400 acre area of almost unspoilt forest, with tumbling streams, grassy meadows and towering trees to discover.
With over 15 miles of footpaths to explore, Hardcastle Crags is a walker's paradise. Choose from family-friendly walks along the riverside path, or challenging hikes to the top of the valley.
In the middle of the park is Gibson Mill, a 19th century cotton mill which is now an off-grid visitor centre and café with interactive displays and exhibits that tell the 200 year history of the park. It's the perfect place to stop and catch your breath.
There are walking routes that take you on gentle meanders through shady woodland as well as bracing hikes up the rocky slopes that give the area its name. There are regular guided walks to join too, where you can explore the wider landscape surrounding Hardcastle Crags or join one of the team’s rangers to get closer to the woodland’s fascinating wildlife.
All of the walking routes can be started from either of car parks, or picked up from Gibson Mill.
