Ceredigion - Cardigan Bay Surfing

Discover the ideal surfing conditions for beginners at Cardigan Bay

Cardigan Bay doesn't have the biggest waves so it's a great place for beginners and kids to learn to surf and it's certainly not short of instructors! The Cardigan Bay Watersports shop has the necessary gear, so even if you've never surfed before, you can find everything you need to get started here.

As you travel south past Borth, you'll find long stretches of beach with fun, manageable peaks backed by long rolling dunes that turn into towering cliffs and boulder reefs. However, wind swell that's been blown out is common, especially during storm season. It has many blue flag beaches and good surf when the conditions are right.

Strong currents can occur at Poppit Sands Beach, particularly where the river Teifi meets the incoming tide.

Be aware that lifeguards only patrol the beaches during peak summer months.
