Devon - Putsborough Sands

Plenty of surf and sand at Putsborough

Putsborough Sands is made up of three miles of sheltered golden sands stretching north towards Woolacombe and Morte Point and south towards Baggy Point.

It's one of the finest beaches in the South West - the sea is inviting, the surf is top quality and the surroundings are stunning.

A 3m (5km) stretch of sand that extends toward Woolacombe in the north and Baggy Point in the south, Putsborough can sometimes see some pretty big waves that attract experienced surfers from all over the UK.

On days when the surf is small, it offers a great wave for beginner or nervous surfers. There's a strong rip current near the south end of the beach near the cliffs, which might appeal to the thrill seekers but could be dangerous for anyone less experienced.

This big sandy beach is a firm favourite among local surfers. It can get a bit crowded at the weekends, but there is so much space that it’s hardly noticeable.

The long sweeping sands are renowned for their cleanliness and beauty. It's popular with swimmers, windsurfers and sea canoeists as well as surfers. There's a beach car park with disabled spaces, however direct beach access involves some steps.

Surfboard hire is available on the beach and dogs are permitted from October to April.
