West Sussex - West Wittering Beach

Surf's up at West Wittering

West Wittering Beach is a beautiful, blue flag beach just six miles south of Chichester where you can enjoy walks along the long stretch of sand or indulge in some high-octane watersports.

Surfers are well catered for here with surfing allowed all year round and lifeguards available from May to end of September.

If you're looking for uncrowded waves, friendly locals and stunning surroundings, this is the surfing spot for you. Though local surf reports can be a bit unreliable, the best conditions are often a few hours before high tide on a southwesterly swell. Expect slightly more crowds during the summer months.

You can also windsurf, paddle board and kite surf here.

Close to shore during the summer months, there are gentle forgiving waves that are ideal for beginners or less confident surfers. Paddle or walk further out and you should find swell that’s perfect for the intermediate surfer wanting to catch those green unbroken waves.

In winter there are waves for all ability levels. Head here for an early morning or evening surf and you’ll have the opportunity to witness the truly incredible sunrises and sunsets this beach has to offer.
