Gwynedd - Bala Lake Fishing

Get your waders on for a visit to this stunning freshwater lake

Bala Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake in Wales and is surrounded by stunning mountain scenery. It’s over 6km long, and 140 feet deep in places and the wide variety of species and quality of fishing means you can fish all year round as there’s always something in season.

You can try your luck with perch, roach, pike, brown trout, grayling, eels, minnows, loaches, ruffe and bullheads. Some of the species here grow to specimen sizes – 30lb pike and 15lb ‘ferox’ trout have been caught. Plus, this is one of the few places in the country where you can fish for still-water grayling.

If you really want to challenge yourself, the legendary gwyniad is unique to this lake. It’s a deep water plankton feeder and rarely caught on rod and line.
