Lincolnshire - Horncastle to Woodhall Spa Trail

A safe, traffic-free trail for all ages and abilities

You can either walk, ride or cycle this easy route from Horncastle to Woodhall Spa.

The Spa Trail is 3 miles long and leads from Horncastle to Sandy Lane near Woodhall Spa. It follows a section of the disused Horncastle to Woodhall Spa Railway, and is also part of the much longer Viking Way.

The trail has a hard core surface, which makes it ideal for pushchairs, wheelchairs as well as walking in all weathers.

Travelling through countryside and dappled woodland, the trail follows the route of bridleways and an old junction line and part of the Horncastle Canal. Make sure you stop to admire the various metal, stone and wooden sculptures along the way, which reference local history and wildlife.

You can join the trail at a number of access points. There's some car parking but its limited.

  1. Sandy Lane, Woodhall Spa. Situated off the B1191. 2 miles from Woodhall Spa village centre.

  2. Martin. Situated near Martin bridge on the B1191 between Woodhall Spa and Horncastle.

  3. Thornton Lodge, near Horncastle. Situated on the minor road off the A153. Roughly a mile south of Horncastle town centre.

Walkers can continue by public footpath into Woodhall Spa and Horncastle.
