Pembrokeshire - Fishguard to St. David’s cycle loop
A 19-mile cycle route connecting Fishguard to St Davids
Part of the National Cycle Network, with views of the Pembrokeshire Coast, this ride to St Davids is a great way to explore south west Wales.
The route is essentially split into two sections that meet at Trefin.
A short section of non-trafficked paths along the A40 can be found in the first section that heads south from Fishguard. It joins quieter country lanes after a brief stretch on the A487.
The route is very much two parts that join at Trefin. The first section going south from Fishguard provides a short section of traffic-free paths alongside the A40. After a short section on the A487 it joins quieter country lanes. These lanes are hilly in places but things get a little easier once you reach Trefin.
Leaving Trefin the route runs mainly on a ridgeline in from the coast, with stunning views all around. You'll see the Pembrokeshire Coast to the west and the rugged Preseli Hills to the east. If you don’t mind a steep climb back to the route, it’s possible to branch off down to small coves and the cliffs.
On the other side, you can enjoy the scene provided by the Preseli Hills and its rugged landscape created by many burial cairns.
Due to the popularity of St Davids and its famous cathedral, even the minor roads can get quite busy as you approach this small and unique city, but don’t let the thought of the traffic put you off as the scenery is fantastic.
