Pembrokeshire - West Dale Beach

Visit this beautiful, small beach and go for a surf

West Dale Beach can be found just south of the former RNAS Dale airbase on the outskirts of the village of Dale. The cliff-backed beach here is a mix of sand and shingle. There are a few rock pools on either side of the small beach.

The waves here are good with solid swells and north-easterly winds but beware of strong rips, submerged outcrops, unpredictable currents and powerful waves, so best left to more experienced surfers.

Looking toward the west, out to the ocean, you can see across to the bird safe haven of Skokholm Island.
You can visit the charming Griffin Inn in Dale because the beach is so close to the village. There is a full range of amenities just a short distance away. Dale Castle, which was built in the 20th century but originally dates back to the 18th century, is one of the other attractions close to the beach.

The beach is in a long, geologically significant valley that runs along the coast and reaches the Dale Peninsula. The Rhaetic Fault, which extends all the way to Mildford Haven Waterway, is responsible for the cliffs that surround the beach.
Great Castle Head, an Iron Age fort, can be found south of the beach.
