Cornwall - Perranporth Beach

Two blissful miles of sandy beach with plenty of amenities nearby

Family-friendly beaches don't get any better than this little smasher on the North coast of Cornwall. There's two miles of sand to run around on, a pub right on the beach and Perranporth high street is brimming with places to buy ice creams, fish and chips, surf boards, buckets and spades... the list goes on.

Not only is Perranporth a great beach for splashing about in the sea or playing bat 'n' ball with the kids, it's also a popular surfing spot with locals and tourists. Get there early in the morning and you might glimpse a few horses and their riders having a paddle in the surf.

The sand dunes surrounding the beach are teeming with wildflowers and wildlife (go carefully so you don't disturb them) and at high tide it's possible to walk up the beach to Ligger Point, two miles away. Dog are allowed all year round but there are rules about keeping them on a lead at certain times in peak summer season.

In the centre of the beach at the end nearest the town, there’s a large rock that usually has a Cornish flag flying. Get a little closer and you’ll see that it’s actually a sea pool that’s refilled every time the tide comes in.

For extra peace of mind when you and the family are enjoying the waves, the main beach has lifeguard cover from Easter till the end of October.
