Cornwall - Porthtowan Beach

Surfer's flock to this gorgeous sandy beach

Slap bang in a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this Blue Flag award-winning beach is one of Cornwall’s most popular surfing beaches and has been the recipient of many awards for quality and cleanliness

Bordered by soft golden sand and backed by large dunes and dramatic cliffs, this beach is popular with both local surfers and visitors. From the beach at low tide you can walk to the neighbouring beach at Chapel Porth.

Porthtowan’s beach has been awarded Blue Flag status for exceptional quality and cleanliness for several consecutive years from 2004 through to 2020. It also has the Seaside Award, Category A- Resort Bathing Beach - the highest UK-based award scheme recognising Porthtowan as a great beach with clean water and handy facilities such as toilets and parking.

Porthtowan's large expanse of sand, perfect for a game of rounders or cricket, makes it a firm family favourite, there’s even a children’s play park at the top end of the beach.

RNLI lifeguard cover is usually available between May and September.
