County Antrim - Altnahinch Reservoir

18 hectares of prime fishing spots to discover

Altnahinch Reservoir is situated in an exposed area of peaty moorland but the banks are quite solid so it's ideal for fishing. There are almost 18 hectares of land where you can fish for brown trout and rainbow trout, among other species.

The best methods for fishing here are fly fishing, worm fishing, and spinning.

The bay at the head of the reservoir can be quite sheltered and has a deep channel that can be easily covered from the south-western shore.

There is a native stock of free-rising brown trout, but this has been supplemented by stocking with takeable size fish from Movanagher. Brown trout of around 3kg have been caught regularly here. The lake fishes well to small attractor fly patterns such as Bibio in early spring and sedge patterns later in the season. Spinning with red and blue spotted Mepps also works well.
