You'll never be bored again with this many activities to choose from

Located between Wirksworth and Kniveton, Carsington Water takes water through the tunnels and aqueduct straight from the River Derwent.

There is an astonishing choice of things to do here, from biking to boating and fishing to windsurfing. So, it's an absolute lifesaver when you need to please family or friends of varying ages and interests.

There's a designated cycle path which is traffic-free that loops all the way around Carsington Water. There's a 3 mile cycle route perfect for little legs (and bigger ones too) and an 8 mile route for those who want more of a challenge.

Ramblers are also catered for: choose from three routes that all allow you to take in the breathtaking views of Carsington Water. Enjoy the one mile stretch out onto Stones Island, which gives you panoramic views across the water, or take a detour through the nearby villages of Carsington and Hopton. And there's also plenty of opportunities for bird watching with hides along some of the routes. Kingfishers, little owls, oystercatchers and grebes are all regular visitors.

Looking to land a record catch? The reservoir is home to both brown and rainbow trout. Boats are available to hire and the fishery is open from March until November.

Lastly, you can also indulge in a huge variety of watersports such as rowing, canoeing, windsurfing and kayaking. Lessons are on offer, or you can simply hire the equipment.

The Visitor Centre is the largest building, with a café serving drinks and snacks.

Carsington Sports and Leisure is a place for the public to rent equipment including kayaks, canoes, small rowing boats, sailing boats and windsurfing equipment.

Carsington Sailing Club owns a large portion of the shoreline. Members can hire boats, as well as store boats from small dinghies to anchored cruisers.
